Tanzania travel requirements
What documents do you need to travel to Tanzania?
One of the essential travel requirements for Tanzania is to have an approved visa when you arrive.
Citizens of eligible nationalities can apply for the Tanzania visa online (known as the eVisa). If this doesn’t apply to your nationality, you will have to go through the application process at an Embassy or Consulate of Tanzania.
These are the available visas for Tanzania:
- The single entry visa, which allows you to travel once for up to 90 days.
- The multiple entry visa, which allows you to enter and leave the country as much as desired for a year. You can only stay 90 days in Tanzania per entry.
Besides having an approved visa, all travelers will need to show proof of their return flight when they arrive in Tanzania.

Is it mandatory to have travel insurance to visit Tanzania?
It depends on which areas of the country you wish to explore. If your itinerary includes a stop in Zanzibar, then you will need to show proof of having purchased travel insurance. If your trip is limited to only continental Tanzania, then this won’t be necessary.
Thankfully, applying with us will solve all your problems. Just detail in your application form if you plan on traveling to Zanzibar to apply for your visa and insurance policy at the same time. Once you get your confirmation, print it out and show it to the border authorities.
The official policy demanded by the government is valid for 92 days, covering the duration of the journey and the maximum length of stay allowed by both types of visas. If your planned stay is longer than 90 days, you will need to apply for travel insurance again after that period.
