The travel visa for Tanzania is an authorization issued by the government for foreign tourists that wish to stay in Tanzania for a specific period of time. The reason for the trip will determine the type of document you apply for.

Do you need a visa for Tanzania?

It depends on what your nationality is. Citizens of specific countries are allowed to travel for up to 90 days without the need of having to apply for a Tanzania tourism visa.

All other nationalities will need to have an approved Tanzania travel visa to be able to enter the country. In most cases, if they’re eligible, they will have to apply for the Tanzania online visa. If your country isn’t eligible, then you will have to go to the nearest Embassy or Consulate.

Visit Visa requirements for Tanzania for more information.

Is it possible to apply for a Tanzania online visa?

Yes, it is possible to apply for a Tanzania eVisa entirely online. This application method is much simpler than the traditional one, done in person at an Embassy or Consulate.

First of all, it’s a lot quicker: it will only take a few minutes. On top of that, it’s also more comfortable: instead of having to spend a lot of time at an Embassy, you can apply from the comfort of your own home, or whatever other place in which you can get good internet access.

Where can I get a Tanzania e visa?

All eligible nationalities will be able to apply for their Tanzania e visa online by clicking the button down below. Citizens of ineligible countries will need to head into the corresponding Embassy of Tanzania.

Can I get a Tanzania visa on arrival?

Yes, a Tanzania visa on arrival is available for citizens of eligible countries (the same who can apply for the Tanzania online visa). However, this application method is not advised: it takes longer and it can’t be paid for with a bank card, only with US dollars in cash. It’s also riskier: if your visa is rejected, you will be forced to return to your home country immediately, causing a loss of time and money.

This type of visa is obtained, like its name says, on arrival at the border, at the entry point of your choice (usually the airport). It can be applied for in Tanzania or Zanzibar.

Iraq is the only country obliged to apply for the Tanzania visa on arrival, and they cannot apply online. All other nationalities eligible for the visa on arrival can also apply online, the best application method.

An extension of the Tanzania eVisa is available, but it can’t be applied for online, only at the Immigration Office in Dar es Salaam once you arrive in the country.  The extension, if granted, will be for up to 90 days. It can be applied for twice, for a stay of up to 6 months.

Each traveler can apply for the following types of visas for Tanzania, according to their own specific needs:

Tanzania ordinary visa

Length of stay: 90 days
Validity: 90 days
Number of entries: single entry
Use: this visa type is for tourism, leisure, and other activities (charity, conferences, etc.) that don’t involve work/a financial gain.

Tanzania multiple entry visa

Length of stay: 3 months for each stay
Validity: 1 year
Number of entries: multiple entries
Use: this visa type is for people who need to enter and leave Tanzania and Zanzibar more than once in a short period of time. It’s also mandatory for US citizens, who can’t apply for the Ordinary Visa.

How much is the Tanzania e-Visa?

There’s not a unified cost for the Tanzania e visa. It depends on the type of document you apply for and its advantages or disadvantages. For example, a multiple entry visa is beneficial to the traveler because it allows them to travel in and out of the country more than once without having to go through the application process each time. However, its cost will always be higher than a single-entry visa.

In the case of Tanzania specifically, the total cost ranges between 94 – 199 USD. This price covers our constant assistance, all communication with the government, and the revision and correction of any missing or incorrect information.

Fill out the form, we will guide you step by step in the process and thus we can calculate the cost of your visa.

How long does it take to get a Tanzania e Visa?

The application for the eVisa for Tanzania will take around 10 days to be processed. However, the safest bet is to apply with at least 25 days of anticipation before traveling.

Is the Tanzania visa multiple entry?

There’s a multiple entry visa available to travel to Tanzania, besides the single entry (ordinary) and transit visas.

Travelers should apply for this visa type under these circumstances:

  • If they’re holders of US passports
  • If they’re married to a citizen or resident of Tanzania
  • If they’re government consultants
  • If they work for an international NGO
  • If they’re a non-resident director of a company registered in Tanzania
